The Good Ole US of A
As most of you know, I have been residing in Germany and Spain for most of my adult life, with one year each in London and Amsterdam, totally 28 years. I could have never resided in any of those countries without papers! I had to learn German in order to shop, socialize, network, and just to know what the hell is going on. In the disco days, there were not many American Blacks in Europe, so we had a monopoly on most of the English language recordings coming out of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and a few others. I even sang in German and other languages especially when “soul” was needed. Many of my non-American colleagues spoke English, but learning their language and mixing with the indigenous peoples of Europe helped me learn customs and languages of the country where I resided and/or worked. How did the “GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD” (I have doubts about that line) allow millions of people to enter and stay without acquiring the necessary permits? Look what you have done, USA! Germans would have thrown me out long ago and the Spanish? Well they would have imprisoned me. I didn’t have to rely on European men to marry me, etc. I earned my own living, pay taxes, my own home and was treated very well by German people (sometimes). All in all, my immigration experience in all countries has been very pleasant because I obeyed the laws. I know some foreigners who leave countries every 3 months by-passing getting permanent residence and work permits. That’s very expensive and too stressy so it’s best to obey the law. I appeal to all Hispanics and others who have not gotten your citizenship straight. Learn the language, socialize with American people, get your papers. If you can’t get your papers, go back home! You will be eventualy caught and deported anyway and it’s not worth it. I have nothing against foreigners as I am ex-patriate also, but please get it together or go back.
